Twelve of 21 new cardinals from around the world meet journalists in Vatican city ahead of the ceremony at which they will be formally appointed. Saturday's event, called a consistory, is the ninth of Pope Francis's pontificate since his election in 2013 and will be closely watched for clues as to the future direction of the Church. Most of the 21 new cardinals will one day be eligible to elect the Pope's successor -- or become pontiff themselves. IMAGES
