Description
In a Lima slum, Peruvian families are turning to chicken feet, bones, and blood as alternative food sources. The Corazon de Jesus soup kitchen provides meals costing only 0.37 cents on the dollar, which stands in stark contrast to the culinary offerings of acclaimed chefs whose restaurants in the capital serve meals costing up to 330 dollars per diner. "Eating meat is a luxury, I don't buy meat. What I buy is chicken giblets," Sucno, a 23-year-old mother carrying her one-year-old son wrapped in an Andean blanket as she waits in line to receive her daily food ration. IMAGES AND SOUNDBITES
