Description
"I envy people who have water," says Maria Baten, a resident of a village in northern Guatemala where the drought threatens to create "an unprecedented food crisis." But in the southern part of the country, "when it rains, we're afraid," laments Ilsia Lopez, who has been traumatized by recurrent storms. The lack of rainfall is linked to climate change and the El Nino phenomenon, according to the NGO Save the Children, and threatens "an unprecedented food crisis" in Guatemala, with 3.5 million people at risk.
