Description
Margaret Thatcher, Mikhail Gorbachev or members of the British royal family were all the stars of a TV programme that appeared in the UK in the early 1980s, depicting public life in the form of puppets. The show, which inspired others around the world including 'Les Guignols' in France, was a huge success in its day because "no one had ever really spoken about politicians in that way", explains the exhibition curator. "There isn't enough satire on British television," laments the programme's former producer John Lloyd, who believes that the British no longer know how to laugh at themselves. IMAGES AND SOUNDBITES
