Hundreds of people gather in Brussels to protest against the EVRAS ("Education in Relationships, Emotions and Sexuality") sexual education course, a programme which has sparked controversy in the French-speaking part of the country. The course, presented by French-speaking Education Minister Caroline Desir in the form of a two-hour lecture by accredited outside speakers, is aimed at students in the sixth year of primary school (aged 11-12) and the fourth year of secondary school (aged 15-16), and its aim is to "reassure students about issues they may find difficult to understand", according to Desir. But since the start of the new school year, the programme has sparked a revolt on social networks and calls for demonstrations from ultra-conservative circles, including Muslim associations and Civitas (a traditionalist Catholic organisation).
