Description
Members of the Uyghur community in Turkey gather in a square near the Chinese Consulate in Istanbul to protest the Chinese government's alleged discriminatory policies against Uyghurs, as they demand the recognition of China's Xinjiang region as "East Turkestan". Gulbahar Celilova, a 59-year-old mother of four and a former prisoner who spent one year and three months in a Chinese prison, is one of the Uyghur women protesting. "On May 22, 2017, they arrested me at eight o'clock in the morning from a hotel in Urumqi," she tells AFP. "They told me: You are Uyghur, you are a terrorist. My only crime is to be a Muslim Uyghur."
