"This reinvestment is historic," declares Emmanuel Macron on the site of a gendarmerie barracks in Tonneins, in south-west France, after unveiling the map of the 238 new gendarmerie brigades, most of which will be new mobile vehicles to be "deployed on the ground" in rural or peri-urban areas. "People need your presence because it reassures, because it deters, because it accompanies," the French president added.
