Description
One of the most isolated villages in the world, "Ittoqqortoormiit" on Greenland's east coast, is 500 kilometres (310 miles) from the nearest human settlement. The village is home to one of the last Inuit hunting communities, who rely on cold winters, ice and snow for both food and water, but climate change is causing the ice to melt, putting their livelihoods at risk. Recent studies show that the villagers face dangerous levels of chemicals present in their blood, thanks to pollution in their hunted meat, like seal and narwhal. On top of that is an influx of tourist cruise ships rushing to see their way of life - which some say is disrupting their dwindling hunting traditions.
