Faced with growing insecurity linked to drug trafficking, the University of Aix-Marseille has decided to temporarily close a site in the centre of Marseille, prompting the police prefecture to promise increased resources around the institution. "The solution I proposed, which has apparently been accepted, is to place police officers at a fixed, static point in the square" in front of the university annexe "to reassure both staff and students, who must be able to come and study in peace", explained police prefect Frédérique Camilleri after a meeting with representatives of the university and the city of Marseille.
