Description
"The children we're meeting are searching for hope" says Lilith Hayrapetyan, a clinical psychologist in the Armenian capital Yerevan, who has been dealing with child refugees from the Nagorno-Karabakh region, which fell under Azerbaijani control in a recent military operation. One of those forced to flee the disputed territory is seven-year-old Marat Baghisian, who remembers the day Baku's offensive started. "I changed my clothes after school" he says, "then went to the yard and played a bit and they started shooting". Despite his age, this wasn't Marat's first experience of war, following the 44-day conflict in Karabakh in 2020. More than 100,000 of the region's 120,000-strong population have left since Azerbaijan launched its offensive last month. IMAGES AND SOUNDBITES
