Description
Osman Kavala, an imprisoned Turkish human rights defender, has been awarded the Council of Europe's Vaclav Havel Human Rights Prize. As Ankara's bête noire, Kavala risked incurring the wrath of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan. In his absence, it was his wife, Ayse Bugra Kavala, who received the award from the President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, Tiny Kox, in the hemicycle of the European Parliament in Strasbourg.
