Description
A new and expansive exhibition at Amsterdam's Van Gogh Museum brings together works produced by the Dutch artist and his contemporaries capturing the industrialisation experienced in the suburbs along Paris' river Seine in the late 19th Century. "This is the first time anyone has brought together this particular period in Van Gogh's life" explains Emilie Gordenker, the museum's director, "you can see in this exhibition how quickly he's learning". The exhibition also features works by Paul Signac, Georges Seurat, Émile Bernard and Charles Angrand, "five avante-garde painters who lived in Paris and ventured outside the city walls" says Bregje Gerritse.
