Description
"It's a good day when science gets this kind of attention" says biochemist Katalin Kariko, who earlier this month was awarded the Nobel Prize in Medicine, alongside Drew Weissman, for her pioneering work on messenger RNA, the technology underpinning the Covid vaccine. Speaking at a press conference at the Hungarian Academy of Sciences in Budapest, Kariko says "we, all of us in this room, need to help people to understand science better, because people are afraid of what they don't understand". Kariko's Nobel Prize comes in a record-breaking year for women winning the award, with almost half of 2023's prizes going to women. IMAGES AND SOUNDBITES
