Description
Bosnian winemakers Jure Susac and Grgo Vasilj are owners of two grape varieties that are making waves outside the mountainous Balkan country rarely associated with world-class wine: the Zilavka, which produces a strong but refreshing white wine, and the Blatina, a hearty red. Both varieties need little water, allowing them to survive the searing Balkan summers. "I thought that this first wine would never go anywhere, but the barrel was quickly emptied and that was my starting point...," says Susac, who planted his first vineyard in the early 1980s.
