Description
In the Mont-Blanc massif in Haute-Savoie, scientists are documenting the appearance of a new ecosystem as the Tré-la-Tête glacier, the fourth largest in France, is retreating. Wetlands, which sequester carbon, are appearing. "We've melted the glaciers, we haven't managed to preserve them, so maybe we've got a second chance, and that's how we can protect the nature that is emerging from the glacial retreat", explains glaciologist Jean-Baptiste Bosson, who is calling for the preservation of these virgin areas created by melting glaciers.
