"We were here for 12 hours. We actually ran out of bullets": 70-year-old Rami Gold fought for hours to protect Beeri Kibbutz, a community in southern Israel near the Gaza border, from Hamas militants on 7 October. Beeri was one of the worst hit of about 20 communities near the Gaza border that were targeted as well as army bases. More than 100 members of the community of 1,200 were killed, according to the Israeli army, in a ground, air and sea offensive that shocked Israel and the world.
