Several thousand people - 40,000 according to the organisers and 12,000 according to the police - gather in Brussels outside the European institutions to demonstrate their solidarity with the Palestinian people. "A ceasefire is crucial", declared Frank Barat, author and participant in the demonstration, "we need to stop a humanitarian crisis in Gaza."
More than 4,600 Palestinians have been killed across the Gaza Strip in relentless Israeli bombardments in retaliation for attacks by the Palestinian Islamist militant group Hamas, according to the latest toll from the health ministry in Gaza.
