Description
Tove Udsholt, now 83, was one of some 150 Jewish children who went into hiding in Denmark between 1943 and 1945 to escape deportation to Nazi Germany - and thus the gas chambers. Her mother, Paula Mortensen, entrusted her to a fishing couple, Svend and Ketty Andreasen, as she prepared to cross the strait separating Denmark and Sweden by boat, where she found refuge until the end of the war. "I realised I wasn't going to see my mother again. I started crying... At that moment, I was completely alone," Udsholt tells AFP. IMAGES AND SOUNDBITES
