Description
After a deadly fire broke out at a mine owned by steel giant ArcelorMittal which has killed at least 32, relatives of those lucky enough to survive express the Central Asian country's worst disaster in years their gratitude and disbelief at what happened. "I thank everyone... and I grieve deeply for the losses of others," Anwar Bralin, son of miner Mukatai Bralin, tells AFP. ArcelorMittal, led by Indian businessman Lakshmi Mittal, has a history of deadly disasters in Kazakhstan and is regularly accused of failing to respect safety and environmental regulations, with Kazakh lawmaker Kudaibergen Beksultanov saying that the company "must answer before court because they did not ensure people's safety."
