Description
Citizens in the Bosnian city of Mostar commemorate three decades since the symbolic Stari Most, or Old Bridge, was destroyed during the 1990s conflict that tore the country apart. The world heritage-listed bridge, which provides a link between the city's Muslim and Croat communities on different sides of the Neretva River, was reopened in 2014 after painstaking rebuilding efforts, helped by UN and World Bank funds. The original bridge, a masterpiece of Ottoman architecture, was built by Mimar Hajrudin in 1566, when Bosnia was under Turkish rule. IMAGES
