Description
French Sports Minister Amélie Oudéa-Castera and the deputy mayor of Paris Pierre Rabadan comment on the recent controversy surrounding the proposed Olympic surfing venue in Teahupo'o, Tahiti, whose planned renovation has been criticised by local environmental groups.
Paris Mayor Anne Hidalgo recently came under fire for organising a 60,000 euro trip to the site with five members of her delegation - only to cancel her visit. She then extended her trip for a two week private stay.
Rabadan says Hidalgo was advised by Polynesian President Moetai Brotherson not to visit Teahupo'o because of local tensions, so Rabadan visited the site instead. SOUNDBITES . OTHER EDIT TO FOLLOW
