Description
Israeli soldiers help archaeologists from the Israel Antiquities Authority (IAA), sift through ashes from burnt out dwellings inside Kibbutz Nir Oz in southern Israel, to identify residents who went missing during the October 7 attack by Hamas militants. "I never believed I would have to do something like this, and I don't think anyone in the world thought that something like this would happen," says Moshe Ajam, deputy director of IAA. More than 20 people were reported killed and at least 75 were taken hostage from Nir Oz, when Hamas militants crossed from Gaza into southern Israel on October 7, killing some 1,400 people, mostly civilians, according to Israeli officials.
