Description
The residents of Grindavik, the town in southwestern Iceland evacuated on Saturday over fears of an imminent volcanic eruption, are "exhausted" after three days of hastily collecting their belongings during a brief window allowed by authorities. The town of 4,000 has suffered damage to roads and buildings after magma shifting under the Earth's crust caused hundreds of earthquakes in what was believed to be a precursor to an eruption. "Stuff started falling out of the kitchen cabinets" says Maria Karimanovic, a local resident, "we figured it was time to go." IMAGES AND SOUNDBITES
