Description
Indian authorities say they will resume inserting a pipe through the debris of a collapsed tunnel to free 41 workers after a portion of an under-construction tunnel on a Himalayan highway caved in 10 days ago. "Now we have decided that we will adopt the telescopic method and use an 800mm pipe. This 800mm will go inside the 900mm pipe easily for the first 21-22 meters. That work has already started, and will be followed by drilling by an auger machine – that was airlifted here – that will go deeper as of tonight," says Mehmood Ahmad, Additional Secretary Technical Road and Highways for the Indian government.
