On different days of the week, residents in Taipei take their sorted recyclables to the recycling trucks for collection. Flat recyclable items including waste paper and clean plastic bags as well as bulky recyclable items including cans, bottles, paper containers are collected on alternate days of the week. The recyclables will be sorted by the Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) and then sold to factories for further sorting and re-use. Taiwan boasts one of the world's highest recycling rates of 56.79 percent in 2022. The recycling rate of general waste in its capital city of Taipei reached 72.6 perecent in 2021. STOCKSHOTS
