Description
Images of Bantar Gebang dump site in Indonesia's West Java province, the largest open landfill in Southeast Asia.
Located in the outskirt of Jakarta with the size of about 164 football pitches, the Bantar Gebang dump site receives more than 7,500 tonnes of waste every day and becomes the main dump site of waste from the capital.
Hundreds of scavengers collect valuable items, mostly plastics, amid moving excavators which move the garbage up to the top of the trash mountains but they are making little impact to the waste problems.
Home to around 30 million people, the sprawling megalopolis of Jakarta is facing a trash crisis as the landfill has reached its maximum capacity. STOCKSHOTS
