A small group of people gather outside the Russian Supreme Court in Moscow as it rules to ban the "international LGBT movement", labelling it "extremist". The ruling is the latest move made by the Kremlin as it pushes ultra-conservative social values, a phenomenon that has accelerated since the start of the conflict in Ukraine. "I had hoped that many more people would come" says Ada Blakewell, a journalist and now-former head of a LGBTQ shelter. "The fact that very few people came shows how scared everyone is". The court did not say whether certain individuals or organisations would be affected, but if the ruling were to be applied to individuals, the "extremist" label means gay, lesbian, transgender or queer people living in Russia could face years in jail.
