Smoke rises around various towns and villages in southern Lebanon as Israeli forces launch strikes on militant targets in the area. Cross-border exchanges of fire between Hezbollah and Israel resumed just hours after the expiry on Friday of a truce between Israel and Gaza-based Hamas. The week-long pause was the first break in fighting since October 7, when Hamas gunmen killed 1,200 people in Israel, triggering a military response that Gaza's Hamas-run health ministry says has killed nearly 16,000 people in the territory.
