Description
Cancer patient Islam Abu Roka'a used to receive treatment in Israel, with an access permit allowing him and his wife, who recently received a kidney transplant, into the country. Now, displaced, he lives with his family in a school building in the southern Gaza city of Khan Yunis and goes to an already strained Nasser hospital. "The cancer spread to all of my body seven months ago" he explains, speaking in the classroom he now calls home. "There is not one hospital in Gaza that is safe" he says, as the war between Israel and Hamas continues into its third month and with Israeli forces squeezing Gaza's main cities. The war has decimated Palestinian territory and displaced 1.9 million people, according to UN estimates. IMAGES AND SOUNDBITES
