Description
Plaques commemorating the victims of Stalin-era persecution are disappearing from buildings around Moscow city centre and activists suspect it’s because the memory of Joseph Stalin has undergone a minor revival. "These plaques annoy some people," Nadezhda Gorlova, a resident of a building from which a plaque was removed, tells AFP. "But history repeats itself when we forget it: already today, many people are being prosecuted for their political ideas." IMAGES AND SOUNDBITES
