In Saintes, an historic town in western France, the Charente river has been largely overflowing since Thursday and residents have been evacuated. "The fire brigade are still evacuating people if they want to," says Thierry Peralta, a town hall employee in charge of urban mobility. The flooding is expected to peak this weekend.
