Description
Mohamed Amine Htiouich began honing his engraving skills as a teenager. At his family's workshop in the old medina of Tunis, he first worked on copper, then silver and finally gold. Now, two decades later, the 37-year-old Tunisian is training the next generation in the art of manually cutting words or symbols into jewelry or household objects. "I don't want to see this tradition disappear," said Htiouich, who offers free apprenticeships to young enthusiasts of the craft often passed down from father to son. "I'm afraid that one day there will be no succession." IMAGES AND SOUNDBITES ARRANGED IN SEQUENCES
