Wounded Gazans, including children, are brought to Nasser hospital in Khan Yunis, in the southern Gaza Strip, after airstrikes, and rescuers are seen retrieving dead and injured people from the rubble. Hamas fired a barrage of rockets at Israel just as the clock struck midnight on th first day of the year, and two dozen people were killed overnight in Israeli strikes on the Palestinian territory.
