Dabbing away tears, Ghadeer al-Atrash stands before her bulldozed home in the Palestinian village of Al-Walaja on the edge of Jerusalem. Dozens of families in Al-Walaja have pending demolition orders and fear the same fate, as Israel ramps up demolitions during wartime. Demolitions of homes built without Israeli-issued permits, which campaigners say are nearly impossible for Palestinians to obtain due to Israel's restrictive planning policy, have roiled occupied territories for years.
