Description
The lawyer for a French policeman on trial for seriously injuring a young black man in 2017 denies any wrongdoing by his client, saying "this trial is the story of a double tragedy. But this double tragedy is not the result of any crime whatsoever".
His client, main defendant Marc-Antoine Castelain, is appearing before the Seine-Saint-Denis criminal court for the violent arrest of Theo Luhaka, who was seriously injured in the anus by a telescopic baton, causing permanent disability. Castelain faces up to 15 years in prison. Verdict is expected on 19 January. SOUNDBITE
