Celebrations during a special mass at the site where Jesus is believed to have been baptised by John the Baptist are overshadowed by the Israel-Hamas war which has raged on for nearly 100 days. “In solidarity with our children in Gaza, we wanted the celebrations to be modest today,” says Marah Haddadin, a visitor at the holy site located in the Jordan river valley some 50 kilometres southwest of the Jordanian capital Amman.
