Description
One year on, life in Kahramanmaras, the epicenter of the February 6 earthquake in Turkey, has not returned to normal for residents, especially those living in impoverished neighbourhoods. One of them is Ali Yildirim, who now uses a container as a shelter and workplace. "It is very difficult. People are really miserable; they can't find bread, they can't find money," says the 58-year-old man, who was left suddenly jobless and homeless after running one of the city's historic baths for 20 years. Fatih Akkoc, a 37-year-old factory worker, adds. "There has been no progress. It's just demolition. Our mayor did not take care of Kahramanmaras according to me."
