Description
China meets stinging criticism from Western countries during a review of its rights record at the United Nations, with the spotlight on Beijing's treatment of minority groups and its crackdown on civil liberties. Addressing China's delegation, the British ambassador urges the country to "cease the persecution and arbitrary detention of Uighurs and Tibetans", while the US representative condemns "crimes against humanity in Xinjiang". China is facing a regular Universal Periodic Review (UPR) -- an examination all 193 UN member states must undergo every four to five years to assess their human rights record. IMAGES AND SOUNDBITES
