Since April 2023 at least eight million people have been displaced from their homes by the war in Sudan, UN High Commissioner for Refugees Filippo Grandi tells a news conference. Most are still in Sudan, but more than 1.5 million have gone to neighbouring countries, Grandi says, adding that the refugee response is "poorly funded" and predicting that without improvements some refugees may leave and one day head to Europe.
