Description
In a lake in the heart of Ivory Coast's capital, menacing crocodiles snap up chickens thrown to them from tourists gathered behind a roughly-waist high railing, including football supporters in town for the Africa Cup of Nations. There are around 300 crocs and caimans in the lake next to the presidential palace, from the days of father of the nation Felix Houphouet-Boigny. A custom of the local Baoule ethnic group is to explain your problems to the croc-filled lake, which will "sort them out for you". IMAGES AND SOUNDBITES
