Italian farmers with tractors gather on the outskirts of Rome to demand better working conditions. "We are in talks with the Roman police in order to organise something on the ring road", says one farmer from Tuscany, who hopes the number of tractors joining their cause will reach 1,000 by Friday. Farmers have staged weeks of demonstrations across Europe to demand lower fuel taxes, better prices for their products and an easing of EU environmental regulations that they say makes it more difficult to compete with cheaper foreign produce.
