Description
On 29 January 2024, the Bogdanka coal mine in south-east Poland began mining the longest wall in the history of hard coal mining. The 380-metre-long wall is located 1,020 metres underground. In 2024, the Bogdanka mine expects to extract 9 million tonnes of coal. In 2020, Poland announced its intention to develop nuclear and wind energy in order to move away from coal by 2049 at the latest. At present, coal accounts for 75 percent of electricity production.
