Description
Images show the wreckage from a Ukrainian SU-24M bomber that was shot down at the beginning of the Russo-Ukrainian war, being prepared for transport to Kyiv where it will be incorporated into the "Memorial to the fallen pilot" exhibition at the War Museum.
Lieutenant Colonel and "Hero of Ukraine", Serhiy Verbytsky, who was on board the SU-24M bomber when it was hit by Russian anti-aircraft guns, made a lucky escape but the navigator was killed. As he returns to the site of the crash for the first time in two years, Verbytsky recalls the dramatic event: "There was an explosion of fuel tanks. Fire entered the cockpit, after which I ejected."
