Description
Christophe Breuer, a sports economist based in Cologne, believes that the German Football Federation's (DFB) decision to oust equipment manufacturer Adidas, long-term partner of the German football team, in favour of Nike has come at "the right time". "With an extra 50 million euros in revenue per year, the DFB will be able to invest more in sport... which is good for society". The decision has sparked dismay within the German government, with Economy Minister Robert Habeck criticising the move as a lack of "patriotism." SOUNDBITES
