Description
Austrian consultant Michael Woditschka was one of 11,000 gay people who, until two decades ago, faced prosecution in Austria. While the country decriminalised homosexuality in 1971, certain discriminatory provisions remained in force until the early 2000s. Since February, those prosecuted like Woditschka -- who was summoned by police over his relationship with a teenage boy and convicted in court -- are now eligible for financial compensation. The 44-year-old says he will accept the money offered to him by the Austrian state, which has officially apologised for convicting him, but "3,000 euros in compensation isn't going to fix" the humiliation he faced as a 19-year-old.
