Sonia Vera, the Brussels-based lawyer for Ecuador's ex-vice president Jorge Glas who was arrested in a raid on Mexico's embassy in Quito, says she fears for his life and pleads for international help. "Really the only hope we have for his human rights is the intervention of the international community," she tells AFP. Ecuadoran special forces stormed the embassy on April 5 to grab Glas after an arrest warrant was issued against him for alleged corruption. Glas, who had taken refuge at the embassy since December, was detained just hours after he had been awarded political refugee status by Mexico. IMAGES AND SOUNDBITES
