Description
A historic painting by Austrian painter Gustav Klimt is on display in Vienna ahead of its potential sale, in what the auction house director Ernst Ploil describes as a "once-in-a-century event". The painting "Portrait of Mademoiselle Lieser" is estimated to be worth between 30 and 50 million euros, and depicts a young brunette woman with precise features, adorned with a large scarf richly decorated with flowers on a bright red background. Hidden for almost a century, the work was painted in the last year of Klimt's life, is unsigned, and has never left Austria. Another painting by Klimt was bought for 98.9 million euros in London, becoming the most expensive work of art ever sold in Europe. IMAGES AND SOUNDBITES
