Description
Hundreds of devotees participate in a procession through the streets of Taipei and gather to watch a firework show with a burning "fire lion" at the Dalongdong Bao'an Temple to mark the birthday of the Medicine God. The "fire lion" has long been a plague-dispelling ritual and symbolises warding off bad luck and keeping diseases at bay. The religious carnival is a highlight of the Baosheng Cultural Festival which goes on until June 29, featuring various folk performances and cultural events. IMAGES AND SOUNDBITES
