Description
After a controversial UK law comes into force Wednesday, the efforts of families of victims of the three decades of the conflict over British rule in Northern Ireland known as the 'Troubles' are set to be thwarted. Critics say the law, granting conditional immunity for former soldiers and paramilitaries, effectively prevents victims' families like that of Sean Brown, murdered by pro-UK loyalist paramilitaries in 1997, from bringing prosecutions and legal challenges. "We won't give up on trying to seek that truth and trying to seek that justice for our families," Sean Brown's daughter Clare Loughran tells AFP, with solictor Niall Murphy denouncing the law as "the act of legislative thugs".
