Description
Frontrunner and ruling party candidate Claudia Sheinbaum, a former Mexico City mayor and close ally of President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador, tells AFP that the possibility of Mexico electing its first female president shows her country is "leaving machismo in the past."
The 61-year-old scientist gives the interview after a campaign rally on the outskirts of the capital, Mexico City, ahead of the June 2 election. Sheinbaum currently holds a comfortable lead in the polls over her main opponent, center-right former senator Xochitl Galvez. EXCLUSIVE IMAGES AND SOUNDBITES
